"Hey kid, you got spuds growing in that ear?" This is Bear's grandfather Kai, KNPV Met lof and Schutzhund I. In 2000, I certified on him with the Schutzhund-DVG as a Trial Helper. Very big and very powerful, this shows the dog's warm side too!

The Test and the Testimonial...

GloK.jpg

Pennsylvania resident and State Trooper Kevin Holford with his Gaines Bouvier, Glok.

While researching for working lines Bouviers, I found Howard Gaines name came up for this search. Upon speaking with Howard, I felt he really knew a lot about the breed and had a real interest in preserving the working qualities of the Bouvier. Over the next six or so months I kept in touch with Howard and awaited a breeding of Rock and Bear….
I’m a Pennsylvania State Trooper and I live where I work. I have a wife that is home by herself often due to my work schedule. We have a house in the mountains with 8 acres. So, I really felt the need for a “real deal” dog; we have a Black Russian Terrier who puts on a very good threat display, but I’m afraid she would fold when put under pressure. Being a Trooper, I see the stuff that goes on that the rest of the public sometimes does not know of. I know of retaliation against police officers is something that does happen and all too often. Thus, that is why I contacted Howard and learned more about his Bouviers. I went down to Delaware and meet Howard on a Sunday. I was greeted by him and the Delmarva Working Dog Club. I was very impressed with Howard, Rock, Bear, and the club. It was then I decided for sure that I wanted a puppy from Howard.
Throughout the whole process, Howard kept me up to date on the puppies. I went down to see the puppies when they were 6 weeks old… Wow, was I impressed! These lil Bouvs were tenacious, but yet they were social and environmentally sound. At 8 weeks I went down and picked up GloK! He was exactly what I was expecting- drivey, social with us, and just a good looking dog! We got him home late that night; he did not even cry in his crate that first night! When we got up the next day, I had GloK out in the yard for the first time. We were getting our chimney cleaned and as you can see in the video, GloK was very confident and sure of himself at 8 weeks and 1 day old. I was blown away at the attitude, confidence and boldness this dog had at such a young age…This attitude has carried over and he’s turned into a great dog at only 16 weeks now and I’m excited to see him grow up.
Thanks Howard for a great puppy!

Thanks to everyone who has helped me work and train my Bouvier pair, Bear and Rock. These are difficult dogs to work and to decoy. The extra thanks goes to my training friend and DWDG co-founder, Andy Larrimore for his time, help, and imput into creating working dogs like the Bouvier des Flandres here on Delmarva.

If you're looking for a breed of dog which is unlike many you may be currently seeing, then the Bouvier des Flandres might be for you! Call me or stop by one of our training sessions to see Bear and Rock and to see what you MIGHT BE MISSING!

To see more, you will need to be here!

Give, and it shall be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. Luke 6:38
